很多人做夢都盼著能撞大運，發大財，希望哪天能中500萬的大獎。不過，如果問一下他們，「中大獎、走好運」用英語該如何表達，可能大部分人都會搖頭。其實，英語中正好有一個短語可以相對應：hit the jackpot。



　 　Jackpot的意思是「累積賭注、首獎、頭彩」。這個單詞最初和彩票業並沒有什麼關係，而是起源於一種叫作暗撲克的嚴肅的賭博遊戲。遊戲規則是這樣 的：每人分五張牌，面向下扣；第一次叫牌後可以掉換一定數量的牌；但是只有在有人持有兩張J（Jack）時才可以開始叫牌，而且在叫牌之前每個人必須押上 一定的賭注，形成這一局的賭資（pot）。經過幾輪的叫牌之後，賭注金額會越積越多，最後的贏家將獲得所有的賭資。Jackpot 就是由此而來。

　　Jackpot在撲克遊戲中的本意出現於1881年左右，隨後就出現了今天我們所知的喻意，即"大獎、好運"。

　　據悉，歷史上的第一個大獎出現於公元前1420年的古巴比倫王國。頭獎是600只醃製的羊，裝在一個巨大的、高約70英呎的甕中。真不知道，這個大獎的贏家到哪年哪月才享受完這些"美味"的。

一、 hit作動詞時可以是及物動詞或不及物動詞

　　1. 表示「打擊；擊中」，如果強調「擊中某人某個部位」可以用「hit sb. in the + 部位」。

　　2. 表示「使碰到；撞擊」，主要作及物動詞，間或作不及物動詞。

　　Television has hit the cinema industry very hard. 電視的出現沉重地打擊了電影業。

　　3. 表示「(主意、念頭等)突然被想到」。

　　4. 表示「襲擊；使受害」，通常作及物動詞。
