keep at持續；使（某人）繼續做

Keep at your studies; good grades are important.
你要繼續學習，成績好很重要。
Our boss told us to keep at it, however hard it gets.

keep from不讓（某人）做（某事）；不要做（某事）

We tried to keep the news from him.

比如說，keep off 可用在「忌吃（某種食物或是飲料）」，例如，「吉姆永遠都在減肥，所以不吃冰淇淋」，這句話英文是 Jim is permanently on a diet, so he has to keep off ice cream。「除非是特殊的場合，不然他不喝酒」，就可以說 he keeps off alcohol except for special occasions。

除了上面的用法外，還有一個很有趣的片語 keep up with the Joneses ，是指「和鄰居比較」。
這個片語出自於二十世紀初在報上連載的四格漫畫，Keep up with the Joneses。
故事是敘述邁金尼一家人（the McGinis）搬到高級住宅區之後，不斷地和他們的鄰居瓊斯家（the Joneses）比闊。只要瓊斯家買了什麼新東西，或是請了新傭人，邁金尼家就會努力跟進。
這個漫畫在報紙上連載之後，大受讀者歡迎，連載了二十八年之後才結束。從此以後，keep up with the Joneses 就是指「和鄰居比較；和左鄰右舍比排場比闊氣」。且看下列例句：

keep (one's) word遵守諾言

I said I would help you and I will keep my word.
我說過我會幫你，就會遵守諾言。
